This is a portrait commission for Akina Tokuwa from Gaia. Since it was to be of her in real life, I decided to try semi-realism with this (note: I can't do realism to save my life, that's why I say 'semi' realism). Anyway, it looked really good as a sketch, but once I starting trying to shade it, especially the face, I started noticing several faults with it. It took me three tries at the skin to get it to look decent. I was near ready to scrap the whole thing but a few friends convenced me to finish.
I'm happy with the overall look, despite the fact that the head is too big compaired to the shoulders. Just more practice that I need. My favorite part of the piece is the hair.
To me, this looks much better when viewed full. Smaller views only make the faults more noticeable in my opinion XD;
Holy Crap!
That is some fine shading!!
Excellent Job!!!

Mabye some texture on the skin will give it that "real" look???
I tryed doing real before .. it worked "OK" when I use pencil for the entire picture .. then just colour and some tweaking in photoshop.
Check out my birds
I just wanted to say that I love this piece, and I am so thrilled that you did it for me.
I know that realism and semi-realism are both a pain so I'm just glad that I can look at it and at least see myself in it. I don't need perfection, just great artwork, and I always get that with you.
So don't hate on yourself. It's lovely. ^_^ And I agree that my favorite part is the hair, but I also adore the eyes.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
